Group Biography

TBQ PIcture The Trillium Brass Quintet (Andre Dubelsten and Scott Harrison, trumpets; Mikhailo Babaik, horn; Cathy Stone, trombone; and Jonathan Rowsell, tuba) is a versatile and professional chamber ensemble.

Formed in 1996, TBQ has performed throughout Ontario including recital appearances at the Lindsay Concert Foundation Series, the inaugural Brass in the Grass Festival, the Kincardine Summer Music Festival and the Toronto International Chamber Music Festival. The quintet has collaborated with, among others, the Amadeus Choir, the Exultate Chamber Singers, the Pax Christi Chorale, Cantores Celestes Women’s Chamber Choir, and the Sault Ste. Marie Symphony.

TBQ maintains a strong commitment to education with a busy schedule of educational concerts through Prologue to the Performing Arts.

By commissioning new works as well as transcribing music from many styles and eras, TBQ has developed a sophisticated and dynamic stage presentation.

TBQ’s recordings include their debut CD, Revecy, and Seasons of the Spirit (with the Pax Christi Chorale), and Christmas with The Trillium Brass Quintet.

TBQ's versatility and wide repertoire allows us to present music to suit any occasion or venue - from official receptions, convocations, and corporate gatherings to sacred and secular festive events. Some of our hired engagements have included receptions for the Lieutenant Governor, and somewhat less formal but very festive appearances at Massey College for their Christmas Gaudy.

Amongst the number of churches at which we have played, our appearances at St. James' Cathedral have included annual celebrations of the New Year's Bishop's Levee, which feature jubilant brass and organ music, and hymn settings custom made for that grand acoustic.
